TBRI® Training

The Child Advocates Community Education Division provides individualized training on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) and the impact of trauma on children. The division delivers training to schools, government agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and other groups in an effort to build a trauma-informed community. Child Advocates also offers one-on-one coaching in TBRI® principles and strategies to parents involved in the child welfare system, parents of justice-involved youth, and parents involved in the organization’s educational advocacy program. The TBRI® team is equipped to deliver training both in-person and virtually to any size group. The training is offered in both English and Spanish.

TBRI® for education

The TBRI® team provides comprehensive training on the impact of trauma on children and how it affects their ability to learn and engage in the classroom. The training offers practical tools and strategies designed to increase connection, empower students, and address challenging behaviors in the classroom. The TBRI® team tailors the training to meet the needs of the school. The team offers the complete, in-depth curriculum that covers all three principles of TBRI®: Connecting, Empowering, and Correcting as well as shorter trainings that focus on specialized topics such as Creating Felt Safety in the Classroom and Meeting Students Physical Needs for Optimal Learning.

TBRI® for Healthcare

Child Advocates provides training on the impact of trauma on children’s health to healthcare workers in a variety of medical facilities, including hospitals and school clinics. In addition to teaching tools and strategies to deliver trauma-informed care, the division also offers training on the effects of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences on healthcare employees and how that impacts their work. The training covers how to mitigate the stress and secondary trauma experienced by medical workers.

TBRI® for CASA Programs and nonprofits

Child Advocates brings the power of TBRI® to other nonprofit organizations, sharing insight on how trauma-informed practices can provide opportunities for those who have experienced trauma to heal. With a 30-plus year history of providing hope for the most vulnerable children and families in Montgomery County, Child Advocates equips nonprofit organizations to transform their work and build a trauma-informed community through TBRI®. The division can provide the comprehensive Caregiver TBRI® package required by foster care and adoption agencies for licensing.

TBRI® for business

This program focuses on how employers can create a work environment that empowers staff, provides connection, and mitigates conflict by implementing the three principles of TBRI® in the workplace.

TBRI® coaching for families

Child Advocates has 17 TBRI® Practitioners on staff who provide one-on-one coaching to parents, family members, caregivers, and foster parents of the children served by an Advocate. Typically, the coaching walks the participants through the TBRI® Caregiver package, incorporating videos, reading, and conversations. The TBRI® Practitioner helps the parent or caregiver build skills to connect, empower, and correct their child while addressing specific issues and concerns for their child. Coaching is offered both in-person and virtually. Child Advocates offers the opportunity for coaching to 100% of the families it serves.

TBRI® Community nights

The Community Education Division launched Community Nights to offer a workshop-style class that is open to anyone in the community who wants to learn more about trauma and TBRI®. Community Nights provide an overview of Trust-Based Relational Intervention®, including principles, strategies, and tools. Child Advocates hosts this series monthly and offers virtual and in-person events. Community Nights for Spanish speakers are available upon request.

Community trauma impact (CTI) conference

Each year, Child Advocates hosts a Community Trauma Impact ICTI) conference that explores the effects of trauma on children and how the community can provide healing and hope for those children and families. The one-day conference focuses on implementing TBRI® principles within organizations in an effort to build a trauma-informed community. Bringing in experts on childhood trauma and TBRI®, CTI is leading the conversation on how to address the devastating impact of trauma on children, families, and communities.
